A brand new Genuine Toyota bare replacement engine oil sump pan 12101-54320 as pictured with level sensor hole for the Toyota Hilux Pickup models LN165, LN166, LN167 and LN172.

  • This original sump uses a silicone sealant as opposed to a gasket to seal to the block.
  • It has the hole to accept the square engine oil level sensor. Please check your original also has the sensor before making your purchase.

The sump pan is fitted to the bottom of the engine block which is the lowest part of the engine, this making it very easy to get damaged and easily acceptable to corrosion.

A leaking engine sump is very common and usually due to corrosion, if yours is in need of replacing you'll find that you're losing oil, this can be very harmful to your engine as the engine needs the correct level of lubrication. A leaking engine sump should be replaced immediately.

Shaun, a Customer of RoughTrax purchased this Sump, then very kindly wrote the following article and emailed regarding the fitting to hopefully help others, so a big thank you to Shaun -

Basic guide to replacing the sump pan without removing the engine unit.
Notes:

The following procedure minimises the work involved in replacing the sump pan and allows clear unrestricted access to the engine underside. The engine can also be run after fitting to check for correct sump sealing prior to replacing the front axle unit. Works are carried out from the vehicle underside from ramps/chassis support or a vehicle pit.

  • Secure vehicle and remove front wheels.
  • Remove front bumper and plastics (Optional gives more room & light).
  • Remove sump guard.
  • Remove steering linkage assembly complete with steering damper.
  • Remove CV coupling nuts both sides (NOTE - Bolt units are splined fit and should not be turned).
  • Remove bottom ball joint connection to both sides, wedge outward and secure front drive shafts back with tie wraps (NOTE - ensure flexible break pipes are not strained).
  • Remove front axle prop shaft bolts and secure up to anti-role bar with tie wrap.
  • Support front axle and remove both rear flexible mounting through bolts and 4 front cross member bolts & remove front axle unit.
  • Remove bell housing small guard plate to allow access to rear sump studs.
  • Drain sump and remove level sender unit (NOTE - secure wiring for sender up out of way using tie wrap).
  • Remove sump bolts & nuts (NOTE - requires good quality small ratchet unit, recommend use of hexagon socket).
  • Split sump joint and lower sump pan.
  • Clean up joint face using wood chisel and emery cloth. Wipe clean with solvent.
  • Check fitting of new unit and emery cloth sealant surface on sump + clean with solvent. Inspect new unit for foreign objects within baffled areas prior to fitting.
  • Apply liquid sealant to joint faces and re-fit sump pan.
  • Re-fit level sender, drain plug and wiring.
  • Replace oil filter and fill with oil after sealant sets.
  • Check for engine obstructions and run engine until warm. Inspect for oil leaks.
  • Re-fit all components in reverse of above.
  • Conduct function tests and road trial. Final inspection.
