A Genuine Toyota rear outer half-shaft dust seal for Hilux Pickup models from May/1998-2005, this seal fits between wheel bearing and backing plate area, not in the axle casing.
The seal has the extra lip that helps prevent the ingress of grass or contaminants from entering the main part of the lip seal, original Toyota seal. It's tough rigid metal compound coated with nitrile rubber provides the best possible seal to the differential housing. Nitrile rubber seals have an outstanding resistance to oils, heat & abrasion.
Toyota even smears the inside of the seal with grease.
It can only be changed by stripping down the complete half shaft and wheel bearing assembly.
The seal's purpose is not to prevent oil from the differential entering the drum, that is more so the Inner axle seal OSRA001 or wheel bearing worn as a guide.
IMPORTANT: Use this seal for models from May/1998 onwards only.
