Details

The Front engine front crankshaft pulley, also known as the harmonic balancer or vibration damper for the diesel 2L/2LT & 3L engines, now manufactured by Febest.

This Pulley has a rubber lining inside the pulley, it is common for this rubber to de-bond causing the 2 pulleys (for the fan /Alt) to move back and forth causing a squealing noise, the pulley to actually wear into the plastic timing cover, belts to wear excessively quickly and a lack of power being driven to the alternator.
It is vital that the crank pulley retaining bolt is torqued to the original manufacturer's specification of 123 ft/lb - 167nm. Please check this torque with your model as this is guidance only.

So what does it do?
Essentially, it dampens harmonic vibrations often found created by the crankshaft by acting as a counterbalance.

It is not a pair of pulleys. It is a single pulley made of three pieces:
1. An inner metal hub - Centre bolt retains to the crank
2. An outer metal V pulley to drive the 2 belts - the PAS pulley is a separate bolted on steel pulley
3. A bonded rubber (not plastic) ring between the two.

The pulley is not held together by friction and pressure but by the rubber being bonded to the metal, just as rubber is bonded to metal in motor mounts and suspension bushings.
The typical way they fail is the bond gives way, allowing the outer V pulley's to rotate independently of the inner hub.
If this is how yours failed, it's not related to the work you did, just the result of age and use that's why we only sell high-quality premium replacement pulley.

Use woodruff key ENCR002 and crank pulley centre bolt ENCR003 if required.
