Details

A new Genuine Toyota Power Steering Rack Gaiter for the Land Cruiser 100 series, both L/H and R/H ends of the rack use the same boot.
This new boot, made of a termoplastic comes bagged by Toyota, retaining clips are not supplied with their gaiters however good Cable ties will work fine.

A Rack gaiter, also known as a rack boot, fits either end of the steering rack, their convoluted design allows them to move in and out as the steering is turned from lock to lock.
They prevent dirt and water from entering the rack which potentially could lock the steering rack.
If found split or weeping then it is a MOT failure and should be replaced.

The benefit of using thermoplastic elastomers is the ability to stretch to moderate elongations and return to its near original shape creating a longer life and better physical range than other materials.
