- Great news! this 2.7kw Starter, unlike many, now comes with the correct switch feed terminal post (as per images) that uses the short loom to screw onto via a phillips headed screw - not a plastic snap loom connector as on the later models with the same engine.
- This starter is the larger 2.7KW high Torque starter fitted with the larger contact set and plunger inside the solenoid as was the original Toyota starter.
Top Tip!
Always check your batteries (both if twins are fitted) are up to full working order, weak batteries will draw power from one another and cause early failure of a starter's solenoid contact sets.
Kw Output - Please Note:
- 2.2kw have a smaller solenoid battery feed wire terminal that uses a 12 or 13mm spanner to disconnect.
- 2.7kw have a larger solenoid battery feed wire terminal that uses a 17mm spanner to disconnect.
- Please do check in advance what starter you have fitted as Toyota produced models, depending on vehicle specifications and Country of origin, with EITHER 2.2kw or 2.7kw starter options.
This starter is not to be confused with the smaller 2.2kW starters often being sold incorrectly online for all versions of starter which can result in an early failure.

Q. How do I know what Starter I have fitted?
A. When Toyota manufacturers a model they often produce the same model with different options such as Cold Spec, Country of manufacture etc.
Toyota then choose to use different starter motor options fitted to the same model to cope with the requirements.
2.2Kw starters - these are overall smaller in size to that of the 2.7Kw - less power output - but the easiest way to tell is:
- Follow the main battery cable down to the stater motor, it will be bolted onto the solenoid using:
- a 12 or 13mm spanner size for the 2.2kw or
- a 17mm spanner size for the 2.7Kw.
It is always best to carry out physical checks prior to ordering online - this way you will ensure you receive the correct starter.
