A Steering drag link relay arm Rod manufactured by Camelot for Hilux Pickup front leaf spring models from approx 1979-1997, Mk1, Mk2 and Mk3, Right-Hand drive only.

  • This arm is approximately 20" long and links the steering box pitman drop arm to the boomerang or otherwise known as steering knuckle arm.
  • Fitted to the Right-hand side (RHD models).
  • Contains all the springs and cups installed with adjustable slotted round end nuts, now also comes with the rubber protective boots at either end.
  • Comes with new split pins and grease nipples.

The pitman arm and steering knuckle may also be required as the ball joints that fit into the drag link on the ends of both the pitman arm and steering knuckle can often have play in which could cause the failure of the drag link.

Quality;
Camelot, part of the Trans Forward Enterprise Group, has been trading since the early 80's, they are an ISO9001:2008 approved Company, what's more they have also been awarded the TUV Rheinland Certification, a Global provider of safety and technical certification that works to validate the safety (amongst other areas) of a product, so you can be assured you are fitting a quality component.

Top Tip:
Check the ball studs on both pitman arm and knuckle arm (that the drag link attached to) are spherical else the seats that cup either side of the ball studs will meet together before cupping the ball studs resulting in a loose arm.

Ensure the arm is fitted the correct way round otherwise, it will hit the front chassis on full lock. The arm has adjuster nuts on either end, once fitted adjust both nuts tight then loosen 1-1/3 turns to set the correct pre-load on the internal springs then fit split pin.

Product Reviews for Steering Drag Link Relay Rod

Questions & Answers for Steering Drag Link Relay Rod

Can the draglink be fitted either way?
Yes, you can accidentally fit the wrong way around and in doing so the drag link will hit the chassis on full RH lock and restrict the steering. Always ensure you observe how the old one came off as either end of the drag link looks very similar at first glance.

Is there a torque for the adjuster nut either end?
Not a torque as such, however, Toyota state that once assembled tighten the round slotted nut either end as tight as you can then back off one turn, this sets the pre-load on the springs located inside the arm.

If I still have 'play' after fitting what could be the problem?
Potentially the fixed 'balls' at the end of either the steering pitman arm or the knuckle arms that the new draglink cups around could be worn. Quite often when an arm has been allowed to have excessive play and not kept adjusted, then these balls can have flats worn in them and at worst can even break free of the pitman or knuckle arm, if this is the case you must also replace the arms, never try welding the balls back to arms as serious failure could occur.
